Give Thanks This Holiday Season

Give Thanks this Holiday Season

November 19, 2020

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and although Thanksgiving is usually a time of family, friends, and food, this year may look a little different. We have all had to adjust to a new way of life with the pandemic impacting everyone globally. Although our typical traditions of a large gathering around a dinner table to give thanks might not happen, that doesn't mean we have to skip celebrating altogether. We have found some safer alternatives to help you protect your loved ones this holiday season!

  Host a virtual dinner party

One of the best things about the holidays is being with the ones you love, near and far, and although that may be physically possible, that doesn't mean you can't still spend Thanksgiving with them. A virtual dinner party is a great way to still spend the day with the ones you want to celebrate with, without the risk. Exchanging everyone's favorite recipes prior to Thanksgiving is a great way to continue traditions despite the distance. Zoom is also making it easier to connect by waiving their 40 minute limit on free accounts from 11 p.m CST November 26 through 5 a.m. CST on November 27. Visit their website to learn more.

Enjoy a movie at home

Once everyone has woken up from their post-Thanksgiving nap, watching a movie with the ones who live in your household is a great way to get in the holiday spirit. Check out these recommendations for the perfect holiday movie

Find virtual volunteer opportunities

Giving back is a large part of the holiday season, but this year it might prove to be incredibly challenging. A great alternative is donating to local food banks that provide meals for those in need or finding alternative volunteer opportunities such as one of these, which offer a virtual experience.

No matter how you choose to spend your holiday this year, it is essential to connect with those around you, even if you can only virtually see them! We hope you have a happy and restful Thanksgiving.
